20-Year-Old Abilene Man Indicted For Manslaughter

 

ABILENE, TX – Charles Schaefer, 20, was indicted for manslaughter after he killed Casey Ellis in an crash on November 23, 2016. Ellis was riding her bicycle on her way from work when she was hit by Schaefer at an intersection. Ellis was a student at Abilene Christian University. 

The preliminary investigation showed Schaefer had the right of way, but after further investigation, police found both had entered the intersection when all the traffic lights were red.

According to a local new source, the City of Abilene explained the lights have a slight delay when changing from red to green. It was also determined that Schaefer was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The grand jury returned an indictment for manslaughter in Taylor County, and Schaefer was booked and released on a $25,000 bond.
