ABILENE, TEXAS - Today, the Abilene Police Department introduced the newest member to its K-9 Unit, Tica. This lovely female is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois born in April 2014 in the Netherlands.
"Tica arrived in the United Stated [in] January 2017," said Abilene Police. "She was purchased from Alderhorst International in Riverside, California."
The agency specializes in Police Service Dogs.
"Tica has a Schutzhund 1 Title, which includes training in Obedience, Tracking and Protection, and her commands are in Dutch," said APD. "She will be partnered with Officer Josh New. Tica will undergo a six-week training period to prepare for her career as an Abilene Police K-9."
The APD said this addition completes the four K-9 teams on Patrol, which includes Officer Josh New and Tica, Officer Kevin Pyeatt and Shadow, Officer Kevin Easley and Tex, and Officer Brandon Scott and Ringo.
APD said, "Our fifth K-9, Karma, serves in the Special Operations Division working mainly in narcotics."
The APD thanked H-E-B for donating the money to make the addition of Tica possible, and a formal presentation with Tica at the grocery store will be scheduled in the near future.
