SAPD Warns of Circulating Warrant Scam

SAN ANGELO, TX - There's a new "Warrant Scam" circulating, and the San Angelo Police Department is warning citizens to be vigilant.

"The San Angelo Police Department is receiving complaints from citizens regarding a warrant scam," said SAPD officials. "Citizens said they have received phone calls from a subject claiming to be a County Clerk or similar official. The subject tells the victim they have multiple outstanding Felony Warrants and that they must call a 971 area code number to speak with an investigator. The subject then tells the victim the warrants require immediate payment (via credit card or other means/substantial sum) to avoid going to jail."

SAPD confirmed this is indeed a scam, so please do not agree to meet anyone with payment, purchase a green dot money card, or give your credit/debit card information over the phone.

"If you fall for this scam and lose money, notify your local law enforcement agency and file a report," said SAPD. "Please call the Municipal or County Courts for questions about active warrants."

Also, SAPD asks that you please share this alert with family and friends.

Officials said, "If you have information to report that could help lead to an arrest in this crime/crime activity, please contact police."
