Three Major Vehicle Accidents in San Angelo Happen Almost Simultaneously Sunday Night

Sunday night was a bad one for some San Angelo drivers. There were three major vehicle accidents that occurred almost at the same time and it stretched San Angelo area first responders to their limits.

At 7:19 p.m. a 911 call reported a roll-over with the driver trapped inside the vehicle. That accident was at the northwest corner of The Bluffs, at the intersection of Arden Rd. and FM 2288. A white compact car reportedly ran a stop sign, running into the path of a blue SUV. The driver of the compact car was trapped inside and had to be extracted. 

While San Angelo Fire Department and EMS were reponding to the Arden Rd. accident, another major traffic accident was reported via 911 to the intersection of W. Harris St. and Abe. Ave. and Abe St. near downtown. We don't have any information about that accident.

As the crews were wrapping up the Arden Rd. accident, another 911 call reported a possible roll-over on TX 208 in Quail Valley. There, radio traffic ireported a female adult with head injuries. Shannon's Airmed1 was dispatched. In addition, two children, described as infants, were in the accident vehicle. Luckily, later reports said that the children were not hurt.

A major traffic accident happened at the intersection of Arden Rd. and FM 2288 Sunday evening. The 911 call came in at 7:19 p.m. Sunday evening. Radio traffic indicates that the worst victim in the accident is trapped inside a vehicle after a roll-over. San Angelo Fire Department and EMS are tending to the scene. We have witnessed one ambulance departing the scene with emergency lights flashing.

On the scene are San Angelo Fire Department, Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Tom Green County Sheriff's Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the San Angelo Police Department.

UPDATE 8:31 p.m.

Emergency crews have done what can be done and another major vehicle accident on the way to Quail Valley out towards Robert Lee.

The Quail Valley accident is the third major vehicle accident tonight. The second accident was at W. Harris and N. Abe at about the same time as this wreck. 

There were unknown injuries at this accident, and no deaths.

UPDATE 8:37 p.m.

Radio traffic indicates that Shannon's helicopter, Airmed1 is launching for the Quail Valley accident. The accident is on TX 208. 

UPDATE 8:40 p.m.

TX 208: Radio traffic indicates that an adult female may have head injuries and her vehicle rolled. There were two children onboard. The children's condition is unknown.

UPDATE 8:44 p.m.

TX 208 in Quali Valley: Volunteer Fire Department is on the scene. Vehicle is on west side of road in a field. 

UPDATE 8:48 p.m.

TX 208 in Quali Valley: Medic Six is on the scene. No people are trapped. The two children, described as infants, are okay. 

UPDATE 10:04 p.m.

KLST reports that the white car (pictured above) ran a stop sign into the path of the SUV. The driver of the white car will be cited, according to the source.

UPDATE: 10 a.m. Feb. 17 - Official Press Release From DPS on Sunday Night’s 3-Vehicle Accident

Vehicle 1, a white Ford car driven by Arrielle Ramirez, 18, of San Angelo, was traveling westbound on Ranch to Market Road 853 approaching Farm to Market Road 2288.

Vehicle 2, a tan GMC Yukon driven by Micah Bignall, 25, of San Angelo was traveling northbound with  on FM 2288 approaching RM 853. The GMC had two passengers in the rear seat including a two-year-old child.

Vehicle 3, green Ford F-150 driven by Joseph Riddle, 56, of Carlsbad was southbound on FM 2288 approaching RM 853.

Vehicle 1 disregarded the stop sign and drove into the intersection of FM 2288 and RM 853 in front of Vehicle 2.  Vehicle 2 then struck Vehicle 1 in the driver side causing Vehicle 1 to spin into the path of Vehicle 3, striking Vehicle 3 in the right front.

The driver of Vehicle 1 was pinned inside of Vehicle 1 and was later transported to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries. No other injuries were reported.

DPS Trooper Alan Dykstra’s report indicates that all persons involved in the accident were wearing seat belts.
