SAPD Arrest: Woman Attempts to Take Officer's Gun and Assaults Officers

SAN ANGELO, TX - Over the weekend, local law enforcement arrested 57 people, including TLCA Principal Christopher Morrow (see here), and 29-year-old San Angelo Veronica Ann Arroyo. San Angelo Police arrested Arroyo early Sunday morning after "a bizarre call for service at the Nueva Vista Apartments, 2401 N. Lillie," said SAPD Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said officers dispatched to one of the units around 1:30 a.m. for the report of an unknown problem. 

"When officers arrived, they met a woman who claimed two men robbed her of her Jordan shoes and that she threw the shoes out a window," said Gonzalez. 

She added that Arroyo's story was inconsistent, and the woman appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant. Officers located the shoes on the ground below the bedroom of the woman’s 3-year-old child, who was also inside the apartment.

Gonzalez said, "While investigating the alleged crime, officers noticed holes in the woman’s walls, which the woman claimed to have made in an attempt to hide her child from the robbers. Officers also observed suspected marijuana in plain view." 

The officers informed Arroyo of her impending arrest and attempted to obtain information about a relative who might be available to take custody of the child. Arroyo, however, was unable to provide a name, so officers subsequently called Child Protective Services. 

"Officers afforded Arroyo the opportunity to step outside in order to be taken into custody out of the view of her child but Arroyo refused, became combative, lunged at the Officers, grabbed one officer’s service weapon and attempted to remove it from the holster," Gonzalez explained.

The officers attempted to gain control of Arroyo but she resisted and assaulted them. 

"Two officers were treated at the scene by San Angelo Fire Department Medics for minor injuries they sustained in the assault," said Gonzalez.

Arroyo was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where she was booked for Class B Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Resist Arrest Search or Transport, Assault on a Public Servant, and Attempt to Take a Weapon from an Officer. Also, CPS took custody of the child.

This is Arroyo's 11th arrest in Tom Green County. Her bonds total $19,000.

Overall, out of the 57 arrests, and including Arroyo, 27 people were booked on new complaints, 24 on outstanding warrants, and six on both.
