SAN ANGELO, TX - Here lately, it's been kind of difficult to plan outings with the constant weather changes, but take heart; rain, shine, cold or warm, the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts has some exciting and educational activities planned for today--all indoors.
'Family Days' are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month at SAMFA, located at one Love Street, and are always free. The events feature a different theme every month.
Bekah Coleman is the Curator of Education for SAMFA and said, "For [today], January 14, we will be partnering with San Angelo's own Be Theatre, another non-profit organization, and present "The Show Must Go On." We try to create an atmosphere where people will view the museum as a place to have fun. This event will go from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and we will have a number of performances and games in the galleries.
Coleman added, "Be Theatre will have a special performance inside the museum at noon featuring Alyssa Ramirez, who stars in the title role of children's book character Junie B. Jones in Be Theatre’s Literature Alive Project."
Fictional detective Sherlock Holmes will also be portrayed by one of the actors and both will be doing a museum tour where guests will join in searching the museum for the 'greatest work of art.'
In addition to escorting families through the galleries and meeting different characters throughout the museum, she said, in reference to the noon show, "It's going to be like a 20-minute interactive mini performance."
There will also be several art activities in the museum’s Education Studio, which will also be free including making an impressionism landscape based on Jose Arpa, creating a repousse theatre mask, sculpting a negative space sculpture, and more.
"We partner with Be Theatre twice a year, and, for the January events, we write our own scripts; so this is going to be a lot of fun," Coleman said.
She added, "The Junior League will also be there with their 'Kids in the Kitchen' program, helping attendees assemble healthy snacks throughout the day."
