Man Indicted for Victimizing Children in Child Pornography Scheme in Eight States

MAYS LANDING, N.J.- A New Jersey man has been indicted for multiple counts of child pornography and sexual conduct charges involving children in eight other states.

Sherman Miller, 49, is facing 12 counts, including causing a child to engage in pornography, possessing or viewing child pornography and engaging in sexual conduct with children, as said by Atlantic County prosecutors.

Diane Ruberton, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor, announced that Miller was indicted last week for causing a child to engage in pornography, and for engaging in sexual conduct with seven additional children.

CBS Philly said, “The Prosecutor’s Office says Miller was initially investigated by law enforcement in Texas and the Atlantic County Persecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit in January 2016, and was arrested on Feb. 4.”

NewsWest 9 reported that Miller is accused of sending images to a child in Texas and failing to register as a sex offender.

Authorities also later learned that Miller had victimized eight children in California, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri and South Carolina.

“Authorities say miller sent photos of his genitals and videos of himself to the victims, and allegedly convinced one to send him photos," added the news source. "The eight victims range in age from 9 to 14.”

A news release from the Ruberton stated, "A conviction for a first-degree crime carries a potential of 10-20 years of incarceration in New Jersey State Prison. The potential penalty for a third degree conviction is 3-5 years in prison."

Miller is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility and has remained there on a $50,000 cash bail/ no 10 percent bail set.

On Wednesday, Jan. 4, an Atlantic Rand Jury indicted Miller for:

  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child by Causing the Child to Engage in Pornography, a first degree felony.
  • The Possession or Viewing of a Pornographic Image Depicting the Sexual Exploitation or Abuse of a Child, a third degree felony.
  • Seven counts of Endangering the Welfare of a child by Engaging in Sexual Conduct with Children, a third degree felony.
  • Obscenity for Persons Under the Age of 18, for knowingly showing obscene material to various persons of juveniles, a third degree felony.
  • Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, a third degree felony.
