Mysterious Package in Tom Green Courthouse Causes Bomb Threat Scare

SAN ANGELO, TX – Before noon this morning, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office (TGCSO) and San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) were dispatched to the Tom Green County Courthouse, in downtown San Angelo, after Dispatch received a 911 call regarding concerns over a "suspicious" package in the courthouse.

"The Sheriff's Office, along with the Police Department, responded and the courthouse was evacuated," said Lt. Christina Lopez with TGCSO. Lt. Lopez added that a bomb detection dog was called in to "do a search of the perimeter and buildings."

The courthouse was cleared after about an hour-long search; however, due to the non-specific nature of the threat, the US District Clerk, San Angelo Municipal Court and the Tom Green County Justice center were also cleared, explained Lt. Lopez.

In a separate statement, SAPD Officer Tracy Gonzalez noted that the TGCSO handled the investigation, and SAPD "assisted with evacuation and securing the perimeter."
