SAN ANGELO, TX - San Angelo Police arrested two suspects for their role in a stolen motorcycle pursuit this Saturday, and recovered stolen motorcycles in the process.
Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez said, at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, an SAPD officer observed a man operating a motorcycle without a license plate in the unit block of N. Bishop Street.
"The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the man fled," said Officer Gonzalez. "A short pursuit ensued, but the pursuit was terminated due to the suspect’s high speed and disregard for public safety."
Later in the shift, Gonzalez said officials observed the same motorcyclist in the area, and multiple units responded in an attempt to contain the man in a two-block radius.
Gonzalez added, "Officers developed a possible residence for the man in the 200 block of N. Bishop Street after they located motorcycle tire tracks behind the residence, which led them to the suspect’s motorcycle that was still running and partially concealed by a blanket. Through a records check, officers discovered the 2007 Husqvarna motorcycle had been reported stolen on December 31, 2016, from the 800 block of Paint Rock Road."
During the follow-up investigation at the residence, police identified the driver as 34-year-old Steven Alexander West, who was wanted on outstanding warrants.
"West was located hiding in the attic," Gonzalez said. "During a search of a shed located on the property, officers located several motorcycle parts, another stolen motorcycle taken from the 600 block of Baker Street on December 1, 2016, and a woman identified as 24-year-old Brandy Chanae Hernandez, who was wanted on multiple outstanding county warrants."
Detectives with SAPD's Criminal Investigations Division and CSI responded to the residence to process the scene.
"Subsequent to the field investigation, West was arrested for Evading Arrest Detention with Vehicle and his warrants," noted Officer Gonzalez. "Hernandez was arrested for her outstanding warrants. Both West and Hernandez were transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident."
Additional charges may be forthcoming pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation.
