Teen Hit By Car After Fight at House Party

A hit and run at the cross of U.S. Highway 277 and Cemetery Road (Loop 110) Wednesday night at around 8:00 p.m. led to 19-year-old victim Dalton Chadwick being airlifted to Shannon Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Dispatch received a call after the incident of a man lying on his back on the northbound shoulder of 277, who was fading in and out of consciousness. Upon arrival at the scene, the responding officer found Dalton with dried blood on his hands and mouth and the smell of alcohol on his breath, a Tom Green County Sheriff's Office press release states.

Dalton stated that he had been hit by a black passenger car that did not stop, but continued driving southbound on U.S. 277 South. He relayed to the responding officer that he had pain in his right leg and chest, and was secured to a backboard by Christoval volunteers.

Officers blocked both northbound and southbound traffic, and when San Angelo Fire Department Medic 7 arrived on scene, Dalton was put on a gurney and began receiving treatment in the ambulance. When Airmed 1 arrived on scene, Dalton was tranferred to the helicopter and lifted to Shannon. Officers then allowed travel on the highway to resume, the release states.

According to the release, Dalton stated that he and his fiancee, 20-year-old Malina Kellar, had been drinking with several friends at a residence in Christoval when an argument broke out between himself and his fiancee. Shortly thereafter, a physical altercation ensued between himself and another individual. Dalton then began walking to his own residence when he was struck by the car.

As Dalton relayed his story, Kellar and Dalton's brother, 18-year-old Skeet Chadwick, approached the scene. The release states that both also smelled of alcohol, and Kellar told Officers that Dalton had been in a physical fight with 21-year-old Dakota Barrow.

According to Kellar, Barrow had come to the residence to pick up herself and Chadwick, at which time she and Dalton were having an argument. Barrow contends that Dalton hit him in the face several times and that he followed suit, hitting Dalton in the face several times, after which Dalton left on foot.

Dalton stated that he had been walking southbound on U.S. 277 South and had crossed the intersection of 277 South and Loop 110 when he was struck by a vehicle turning eastbound onto Loop 110 traveling approximately 20 miles per hour.

The vehicle and the suspect has not yet been located, however Dalton said he did not wish to press charges on his assailant.

Both Kellar and Chadwick were issued citations for minor in consumption of alcohol. The investigation has been forwarded to the Tom Green Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division.

Sergeant Ricky Brooks, Sergeant Billy Fiveash, Deputy Schmiedekamp and Deputy John Duarte assisted at the scene.
