SAN ANGELO, TX- One of the biggest celebratory party nights of the year is coming. As San Angeloans count down the second to 2017, many places will be hosting New Year’s Eve gatherings.
Food, live music, and champagne toasts are some things that can be expected at the places listed below.
Men with Hats Band New Year’s Eve Bash (Written by Holiday Bailey)
If you're looking for a New Years Eve night out, but not necessarily 'on the town,' meaning a little more laid back, with just as much fun, San Angelo's VFW is the place to be this Saturday.
Becky Stokes does the booking for the Men With Hats Band and said, "This will be their first time to play at the San Angelo VFW, and they're really looking forward to it. They've been together for about a year and half now, and, before that, they've each played in other bands."
As for their band's name, jokingly she said, "I guess they just all kind of put their thinking caps on and came up with the name."
Singer/songwriter Mark Hagood is the front man for this group and has been playing music for many years. He started as a musician in his early school years, but college and a job took precedence for awhile. Years later, inspired by Texas songwriter Robert Earl Keen, who he saw at a Willie Nelson Farm Aid concert, the musician decided to pick up his guitar once again and get serious about the music business.
His first CD, "Out of Here," was released in 2010, which covered a variety of his own life experiences told in storyteller fashion. As stated on his website (click here), Hagood's general attitude is, "If ya can't be good--be HA--good." He is said to live life to the fullest and has the philosophy that "every day's a holiday and every night's a party."

Stokes added, "Hagood has a couple of CDs out so they (the band) play a lot of his originals, and, as for their specific genre, it's often referred to as Outlaw Texas Traditional Original Country. They play some Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Robert Earl Keen, and have been known to even throw some Lynard Skynard in once in awhile. There's something for everybody, and their fans come in all ages and demographics."
This Sweetwater based-band is comprised of Mark Wayne Hagood, lead vocals and guitar; Robert Allen, lead guitar; Doug Richburg, bass; Rex Mayfield, steel guitar; and Charlie Hertel, drums.
So if you're ready to party, dance the night away, and listen to some good music, the VFW, located at 125 S Browning Street, is the place to be this Saturday. The event will start at 8 p.m. on New Years Eve, and the band will play on until breakfast is served, on site at midnight. The admission price of $25 includes favors and breakfast supplied by the VFW.
