Iconic actress, author and screenwriter Carrie Fisher, 60, has passed away this morning. At 8:55 a.m., Fisher, mostly known as Princess Leia of the Star Wars franchise died in a Los Angeles hospital.
Two days before Christmas, Fisher suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. NewsWest 9 reported that “she went into cardiac arrest, and, upon landing, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she later died.”
Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd. He said, “Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 a.m. this morning.”
Earlier LIVE! asked our readers to express their feelings about Fisher's death. We received a wide range of responses, some negative and some positive.
One reader said, “It's sad. I remember waiting in line to see the Return of the Jedi in 1980 at a movie theater in Houston; I was 8 years old. I was mesmerized with Princess Leia, a girl heroine, in a time where there were mainly men. She was the sh*t to a little girl, a little girl with 2 brothers and all their action figures that always 'won' battles because they were 'boys.' Now, I had someone I could identify with and I could win every once and a while. RIP Carrie Fisher.”
Another reader quoted Yoda by saying, “Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice in those around you who become one with the Force. Mourn them, no not. Miss them, do not.”
Other readers gave quick little blurbs such as, “May she R.I.P.,” “Extremely sad,” and “She will be missed.”
