San Angelo Police Arrest Couple for Aggravated Kidnapping

SAN ANGELO, TX – Since our last update, 22 people made their way to the Tom Green County Jail, including a couple charged with Aggravated Kidnapping.

San Angelo Police Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez said 31-year-old Richard Michael Castaneda and 26-year-old Aurora Deltoro-Santana kidnapped a 49-year-old San Angelo woman. Both are being held in the TGCJ on a $100,000 and $50,000 bond.

Gonzalez said police arrested the couple yesterday afternoon following a lengthy investigation that began yesterday morning in a north San Angelo neighborhood.

At around 7 a.m., SAPD officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of N. Chadbourne Street for the report of an unknown problem where a man reportedly located a female whose hands were bound together.

“Officers arrived and located the woman, who had visible injuries to her face and swelling and injury to her hands,” said Gonzalez. “The woman was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of her injuries and later released.”

Following the initial investigation, Gonzalez said officers followed up on leads that led them to a travel-trailer located on a property in the 4800 block of Grothe Street.

Officer Gonzalez stated, “Officers established a perimeter and Detectives with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene. Initial attempts to make contact with the occupants were unsuccessful, but, after several hours of negotiation, both suspects, identified as Castaneda and Deltoro-Santana, exited the trailer along with a 3-year-old girl.”

Castaneda and Deltoro-Santana were charged following interviews at SAPD Headquarters and transported to the jail. The child who was allegedly present during the incident was taken into custody by Child Protective Services.

“Subsequent to the investigation, Detectives learned Castaneda and Deltoro-Santana, who are acquaintances of the victim, were with the victim on the evening of the 28th,” added Gonzalez.  “At some point, the victim was tied up, assaulted and held captive for several hours. The victim managed to escape the next morning and ran down the street to get help.”

Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and no other details will be released at this time. SAPD’s CSI Unit and the Tom Green County Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) assisted during the investigation.

Additionally, out of the 22 people arrested, and including this couple, eight people went to the TGCJ for new crimes, and 14 for outstanding warrants.
