Woman Arrested for Death of Gunnar McNeil Pleads for More Time to Find Attorney

SAN ANGELO, TX – In December 2014, 20-year-old Gunnar McNeil was killed in the 3700 block of North Bryant Blvd. as he was walking along the road. After an anonymous tip, police indicted Brandi Nicole Weidner for an Accident Involving Death, a Second Degree Felony, and she was arrested on two outstanding warrants in the evening hours of April 24, 2016.

Though Weidner attended her first pre-trial, she did not appear in court for a Motion to Withdraw hearing on Oct. 12; she was a "no show." For that story, click here.

Today, Weidner was scheduled for a post-indictment hearing. She was present in court today, but she pleaded for more time to find an attorney even though she had previously been given 30 days to find an attorney in mid-October. Her Jury Trial was originally scheduled for Nov. 14, 2016. However, that was canceled.

In regards to her request, Weidner was instructed to talk to Judge Weatherby to settle her issue, but the Judge was not inclined to give her more time. Judge Weatherby reminded Weidner that the longer it took for her to find an attorney, the worse off she will be once her trial begins. After a few minutes of further deliberation, however, Judge Weatherby decided to appoint a court appointed attorney to Weidner's case. He clarified that he did so to avoid hindering further delays for a jury trial.

Weidner can still change attorneys at anytime.
