Give Back to the Community at SAMFA's Family Day

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (SAMFA) will be hosting its Christmas Family Give Back Day on December 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Art Museum located at One Love Street. SAMFA encourages the public to join them in celebrating the best time of the year by giving back to the community.

This year, SAMFA will be hosting a Toys for Tots drop-off. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

Family Give Back Day will have numerous events for both children and adults. Art activities, such as making lunch sack decorations for Meals for the Elderly or designing Christmas cards for the Troops, will be some of the fun activities in which children can join. The art activities will take place in SAMFA’s Education Studio.

Also happening on December 10, in conjunction with Family Give Back Day, is “Christmas at the Coop.” The Coop Art Gallery, located on South Oakes Street, a short walk from the Art Museum, invites visitors to experience the holidays through its latest exhibit of Christmas décor. Here, visitors can learn more about the history of some of the most common Christmas decorations and even make a few of their own.

Attendees can also enjoy free hot cocoa, and get a picture with Santa between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Attendees will also receive a little present from Santa: a picture frame that they can personally decorate on site. A dollhouse will be on display, and an electric toy train will be chugging along its tracks throughout the gallery. The Junior League of San Angelo will be hosting its Christmas Storytime book reading as well.

The YMCA has partnered with 20 local elementary school campuses to showcase a Christmas art exhibit prepared exclusively by the young artists. The elementary students work will also be displayed in the Coop Art Gallery. Visitors can vote for their favorite artwork. The top three art pieces created by elementary students will receive prizes from SAMFA.

Just as a quick reminder, Family Day occurs on the second Saturday of each month and is always free to the public. Each month has its own theme and is sponsored by the Texas Commission of the Arts, HEB, and The Sterling Turner Foundation. For more information about the upcoming Family Day, please contact SAMFA at 325-653-3333 or [email protected]. More information can also be found on SAMFAs website at www.samfa.org
