Woman with San Angelo Ties Arrested For Theft and Endangering Child with Exotic Animals

SAN ANGELO, TX - A woman who claims San Angelo as her hometown made national news last week after being arrested for theft and child endangerment when police found exotic animals living in the same home as her 14-year-old daughter.

Trisha Meyer, who claims on her Linkedin as having attended Angelo State University from 2002 to 2008, was arrested today after a "months long investigation" into her Houston home, said one national news source. Officials found several wild animals, including three tigers, a skunk, a fox and several monkeys.

According to one source, the investigation started on Sept. 26 after Meyer tried selling a kitten to a man in California for $3,000. However, she never gave him the kitten after receiving the cash.

The Houston Chronicle reported that an officer with the Houston Police Major Offenders Animal Cruelty Squad went to Meyer’s house with a Texas Game Warden. Exotic animals greeted the officials.

Police said Meyer had permits for the tigers, but none for the skunk or fox. Therefore, BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions took the animals into protective custody. Meyer told officials she only locks up the tigers when she leaves the house.

The Houston Chronicle also reported that a BARC spokeswoman said Meyer fled the Houston home to Las Vegas with all of her animals. She was finally found and arrested in Nye County, Nevada, and her tigers were confiscated.

At the time of the report, Meyer was being held on $2,000 bail in the Nye County Jail.

Many complaints across animal rescue sites and social media have documented Meyer's history of selling animals she claimed as her own. On the Lost & Stolen Pet Recovery website, her profile shows a picture of Meyer holding a poodle. Next to that picture reads, "Trisha Meyer claims 'lost' dogs as her own then sells them to the highest bidder."

On complaintsboard.com, several people had a lot to say about her actions.

"Trisha Meyer currently lives in the Galleria/610 & Beechnut/610 & Bellaire area of Houston, Texas," said one Houston complainant. "She advertises her dogs on craigslist, and ebayclassifieds. She currently drives a gray eclipse. (5-10-12) USE CAUTION when buying ANYTHING from her!! We unfortunately were sucked into her stories and her lies. She always claims to be moving, and needs to sell her dogs ASAP. She will use different names, and does not like to let people come to her house. She might claim to be selling a certain breed of dog but do not believe what you hear! She is selling "maltipoos" now that are just barely 4 weeks old, and claiming they will be 3-5 pounds full grown."

Another complainant on the same site wrote, "Trisha Meyer is a 3rd Striker who needs to be put away for the rest of her life. She trashed my house in excess of $200, 000 in damages and another $133, 000 in theft. She had 104 dogs living inside my house, that is not a misprint...104. There was dog poop everywhere. I evicted her and when she left she robbed my house and two storage units, then she set the house on fire as she was leaving. I was fortunate to drive up just in time to save my house from total destruction."

"If you know anything about this lady and she has scammed you contact [email protected]... They are building a case against her. She sold a tiger illegally," wrote another.

As stated, Meyer claims San Angelo as her hometown. On her Twitter page, established in October 2010, Meyer wrote, "Recently relocated back to San Angelo (my hometown), me, my 4 kids, and our doggie business!"
