The Shannon Medical Center Healthy You Expo at the Sunset Mall brought out all sorts of folks to see what local options there are for healthy living. Mall goers were given goodie bags to hold all the freebies and informational materials that the booths had available.
Chiropractors came out to give screenings, businesses gave out small samples, nonprofits spread awareness and the mall even saw a few fitness demonstrations.
Shannon Medical Center had a large presence, performing various health screenings for blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI, and skin screenings from Howard College Cosmetology.
“It’s a good chance for the public to see what there is for healthy options in San Angelo,” said Lyndy Stone, Director of Marketing for Shannon.
One major draw, especially for the kids, was the medical transport helicopter, AirMed 1, parked in the east lot of the Sunset Mall. The chopper was available to be viewed up close, and a few kids climbed up to sit inside.
Cody Snodgrass, flight nurse and paramedic, was on scene to answer any questions the general public posed. Since AirMed 1 is the only helicopter in San Angelo it muste be outfitted with emergency equipment at all times should the need for the copter arise.
“Right now we are set up if a call comes out,” said Snodgrass. “There’s two units of blood in that cooler and we have a full crew.”
In addition to the draws of seeing Air Med 1, the expo had the incentive of booth bingo, open to every participant who visited all 33 booths. All who completed the card were entered into a drawing for a gift card to any stores in the mall.
