San Angelo Man Sentenced to Four Years in Jail for Stalking

SAN ANGELO,TX- This afternoon, Joseph Edward Velez, 40, was in the 119th District Court for a plea hearing regarding stalking charges. Velez was arrested in May of 2015 for the crime.

Velez admitted to being guilty for the charges and Judge Woodward accepted the plea.

As part of Velez's punishment, Judge Woodward handed down a four-year jail sentence. Judge Woodward told Velez he had limited appeal for this sentence, which Velez understood and willingly withdrew his right to do so.

As stated, Velez had been charged previously for stalking back in March of 2015, and the 119th District Court set his bond at $25,000. He was later charged with a parole violation by the TDCJ in December of 2015.

Velez has been arrested 31 times in Tom Green County, and he had been dealing with bad luck in finding a defense attorney leading up to his original jury trial date before todays plea hearing. He claimed he had been sitting in the Tom Green County Jail for eight months because he could not find an attorney. To read the original story, click here.
