AMARILLO, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized over 50 pounds of marijuana Tuesday after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Donley County. One of the men arrested in the incident is from San Angelo.
DPS officials said, at approximately 2:37 p.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2016 Buick Enclave traveling east on US-287, near Clarendon, for a traffic violation.
"A DPS canine unit was called and alerted on the vehicle," said DPS. "The trooper then discovered several plastic-wrapped packages of marijuana inside large duffel bags in the vehicle. The marijuana is worth approximately $303,000."
The driver, 39-year-old Reuben Ramdeo of Houston, and passenger Miguel Vasquez of San Angelo, Texas, were arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. Ramdeo and Vasquez were transported and booked into the Donley County Jail.
The drugs allegedly were being transported from Santa Anna, California to Houston, said DPS.
