SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University’s Undergraduate Range Management Exam Team has won both the team and individual titles at the Texas Section Society for Range Management's (TSSRM) third annual Undergraduate Management Examination Competition held earlier this month in Uvalde.
The Undergraduate Management Examination Competition consisted of a timed exam of 48 questions and problems covering six different categories: range ecology, grazing management, range improvement, range regions, range inventory and analysis, and multiple-use relationships. Each question asked was selected from material submitted by industry and government agency personnel, university faculty, and non-governmental organizations and ranchers. The three highest individual scores from each team were later tallied together to calculate the team’s overall score.
The ASU Range Management Exam Team beat the Texas A&M University Team by 7 points, taking the first place with 308 points.Individually for ASU, Jacob Reicheneker of Tuscola took first place with 115 out of a possible 150 points
after tying for first at last year’s contest. ASU’s Caitlyn Cagle of Priddy, took third place with 102 points out of a possible 150 points. Tychucus Smith of Lufkin finished eighth and Jake Nanny of San Angelo placed ninth.
This year marked the first time ASU has had two individual scores higher than 100 points. Each of ASU’s individual scores would have won the 2015 competition.
The ASU team is coached by graduate students Kye Burris and Chris Miller. Both were members of ASU’s inaugural Range Management Exam Team that won the TSSRM competition in 2014.
