SAN ANGELO, TX — Sheriff David Jones reported this morning in a press release that the child killed yesterday died of a single gunshot wound. Judge J.P. McGuire pronounced the child dead at the scene. An autopsy was ordered, Jones said.

At 12:21 p.m. yesterday, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies and San Angelo EMS responded to a 9-1-1 call in the 1000 block of FM 2105. There, they discovered the deceased child. At the residence, the mother and three of the dead child’s siblings were present, Jones reported. Their ages were 1, 3, and 6.

TGCSO is continuing the investigation into the reasons the child was shot. Jones said the investigation includes interviews with all parties involved and that evidence was collected at the scene of the death.

Jones said, at the end of the investigation, evidence would be presented to the district court’s district attorney’s office for review by a grand jury.

I wish parents would put guns away so that children can't reach them or find them. I know some folks are doing the best they can but this is such a sad situation that this family will have to live with for the rest of their lives.
