SAN ANGELO, TX - As stated in our previous story, this was the weekend for women lawbreakers (see here). We previously explained that San Angelo Police arrested 29-year-old Amanda J. Olguin for Theft Class C, Assault on a Public Servant and Resisting Arrest Search or Transport.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said Olguin was arrested on multiple charges following an incident at the Walmart North Supercenter Saturday afternoon.
Police were dispatched to the store just after 2:00 p.m., October 1, for the report of a theft where a female suspect had damaged property and possibly assaulted store personnel.
"While en route, officers learned the suspect fled in an older model maroon vehicle, which officers quickly located and stopped," said Gonzalez. "The 1991 Ford truck was occupied by a male driver and a female passenger that matched the description of the theft suspect."
The suspect, later identified as Olguin, refused to cooperate with the officer’s instructions, telling the officer she was not going to jail.
Gonzalez said, "The officer continued to instruct Olguin to exit the vehicle; however, Olguin refused to comply and assaulted the officer. The officer sustained minor injuries during the assault. With assistance from a nearby citizen, Olguin was placed in handcuffs. Once handcuffed, Olguin continued to resist her arrest by attempting to pull away from the Officer and by refusing to get into the officer’s patrol vehicle."
Gonzalez added that after reviewing the store’s surveillance footage, officers observed Olguin, who was at a self-checkout station, appear to become agitated after an employee confronted her. Olguin was then observed knocking items to the floor, striking the register, and throwing additional merchandise at the employee and into the McDonald’s area.
"While at the scene, Olguin requested medical treatment and she was transported to Shannon Medical Center for evaluation," Gonzalez said. "Once cleared, Olguin was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with the stated charges.
The driver, a 51-year-old male, was not charged.
