San Angelo, TX – For the first time ever, the Mayor Wellness Partnership will be hosting the first annual Family Health and Fitness Day on Sunday, September 25. The event is meant to provide the citizens of San Angelo an opportunity to get active.
Families are invited to participate in this free event and have the chance to learn tips about leading healthy lives. The event will take place from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Unidad Park.
The goal of the event is to have families enjoy a nice day on the Red Arroyo Trail while having the opportunity to participate in free health screenings. Information about health and fitness topics will also be available at the event.
The City’s Recreation Department will also be hosting a free 5K walk along the arroyo trail.
"We are trying to get the community more active and more healthy," said Christian Ward from the City's Recreation Department.
Furthermore, Mayor Morrison has proclaimed September 25th as Family Health and Fitness Day. The Mayor’s Wellness Partnership works alongside the Wellness Task Force of the Tom Green County Hunger Coalition.
Family Health and Fitness Day is a national event that was created to comply with the goals set forth by the U.S. General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health. The report highlights the benefits that can come from engaging in moderate physical activity on a regular basis.
