Abilene Corrections Officer Charged with Two Child Sex Crimes

ABILENE, TX - Corrections Officer Jerred Batten, 29, of Abilene, has been charged with two sex crimes involving a minor. The offense occurred on July 1, 2013.

According to court records, Batten pleaded not guilty to the second-degree felony charges of sexual assault of and indecency with a child. The age of the victim is unknown, and there is no further details about the crimes available.

However, Jason Clark with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice told a local news source that Batten began working with TDC in Dec. 2012, and was last assigned to the Middleton Unit.

"TDCJ is aware of the charges, and Batten is not allowed on TDCJ property pending the outcome of the charges," said the news source. "Clark said his employment status is also pending the investigation."

Batten was booked into jail on Friday, but posted $10,000 bail yesterday.
