Fort Worth Man Hands Daughter to DPS Troopers and Flees

BROWNWOOD, TX – A Fort Worth man, Felix Ajaegbu, 26, faces multiple charges in Brown County, including child abandonment, after he handed his child to a trooper and fled on foot Saturday near Bangs.

According to a news source in the area, Ajaegbu is charged with four counts of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, fleeing police, unlawful carrying of weapon, possession of marijuana and failure to identify as a fugitive. His bonds total $235,000.

Trooper Martin Molotsky, who held 17-month-old Arianna Ajaegbu as trooper Michael Sams attempted to arrest Ajaegbu, said, at around 3:15 p.m., Sams stopped Ajaegbu’s vehicle about 2.5 miles west of Bangs on U.S. Highway 67 because Ajaegbu was driving slow in the left lane.

Molotsky assisted, and Ajaegbu consented to a search of his vehicle. Sams located marijuana, Xanax, ecstasy, mushrooms, codeine cough syrup and $500 in counterfeit money. Ajaegbu also had a loaded handgun in his child’s diaper bag.

During the search, Ajaegbu handed Molotsky his child and fled on foot, in an attempt to avoid a search by several law enforcement officers. Ajaegbu made it to a home 1.5 miles away, where he told a man he had a flat and needed a ride.

However, because the man saw numerous law enforcement vehicles, he called 9-1-1 to ask if officers were looking for someone. Sams drove to the home on County Road 177 and took Ajaegbu into custody. Ajaegbu told officers he had been visiting family in San Angelo and was returning to Fort Worth.

The troopers took Arianna to the Brownwood DPS office. The troopers bought the girl a Golden Chick child’s meal while at the office, and she drank a full bottle of water at the scene.

“She’s a sweet little baby,” Molotsky said.

Troopers released Arianna to her mother after the woman arrived from Fort Worth. CPS representatives also arrived and will open a case, Molotsky said.
