Armed and Dangerous Man Leads Big Spring Police on Chase

BIG SPRING, Texas - On Aug. 16, at approximately 2:30 p.m, 30-year-old Michael Shae Jackman, a man known to be armed and dangerous, led Big Spring Police Department Narcotics Officers on a chase and caused a collision.

Officials said officers observed a tan in color Cadillac Escalade driven by Jackman in the 3600 block of W. Hwy 80. The officers recognized Jackman, and knew he had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Taylor County for methamphetamine possession. As stated, he was also known to be armed and dangerous.

Thus, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Jackman. However, he refused to stop and continued westbound on W. Hwy 80. Jackman then turned eastbound onto Interstate 20., attempting to elude the officers. He took the 176 exit to State Hwy 176 (Andrews Hwy) where he then drove westbound to County Rd 21. Officials said the officers continued to follow Mr. Jackman at a safe distance, but they kept the vehicle in site until marked Howard County Sheriff deputies arrived to assist.

At County Rd 21, Jackman continued northbound to Leatherwood Rd. where he turned eastbound. At that point, Howard County Deputies assisted with the pursuit. Howard County Deputies pursued Jackman eastbound on Leatherwood at a high rate of speed to Hwy 87. Jackman disregarded a stop sign in the area, and was stuck by a tractor trailer traveling southbound on Hwy 87.

Jackman exited the vehicle and fled on foot for a short distance where he collapsed. Responding officers immediately began first aid on the subject and called for Emergency Medical Services to respond for treatment. An Air Evac helicopter was dispatched to the scene, and Jackman was flown to Odessa Medical for treatment. Department of Public Safety responded to the scene and conducted the accident investigation.

Jackman is currently hospitalized and will be charged with his felony warrant for Methamphetamine Possession Revocation of Probation and Evading Police in a Vehicle upon his release.

There were no other injuries related to this incident.
