In response to the acts of violence that have occurred overseas and here in the country, the House of Representatives has initiated a bill that would allow metropolitan area police to receive proper terrorist combating training. Part of the program would be implementing safety measures when dealing with an active shooter.
“State and local law enforcement needs to be able to respond to a variety of situations, from defusing an explosive to stopping an active shooter,” said Will Hurd, a former undercover CIA officer and current member of the House Homeland Security Committee.
The bill would include the creation of a Counterterrorism Training and Exercise Grant Program for major metropolitan areas in the United States.
The bill will also provide $39 million dollars to major metropolitan areas in order to train law enforcement in the appropriate response to these situations.
Representative William Hurd represents 23rd Congressional District of Texas. He serves as the Vice Chair of the Maritime and Border Security Subcommittee on the Committee for Homeland Security, and as the Chairman of the Information Technology Subcommittee on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
