Local Law Enforcement Will Trade Handcuffs For Serving Aprons

 

A press release from Special Olympics Texas announced that local Abilene police officers and Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) members from the Abilene and San Angelo area will trade in their handcuffs for serving aprons at the annual Tip A Cop Night, Thursday, July 21.

This event is being held at local Texas Roadhouses in Abilene and San Angelo.

Texas Roadhouse Abilene is located at 1381 S. Danville Rd. The San Angelo Texas Roadhouse is located at 3057 W. Loop 306.

 From 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., officers will serve tables and collect tips, which will be turned in as donations to Special Olympics Texas at the end of the dinner shift.

The public is encouraged to dine at any of the two participating Texas Roadhouse locations and ‘Tip A Cop’ for his/her dedicated effort to support SOTX athletes. All tips will go toward providing SOTX programming for more than 1,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities in the Big Country area.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle.  In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and has grown to become one of the largest in the nation.  In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $12 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX.  The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 55,200 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.
