Rollover Occurs Near Brownwood, Passenger Flown to Hospital

On Monday around 2:45 p.m., a vehicle rollover occurred three miles from Brownwood on US Hwy 377 South at the intersection of County Road 233. According to a local news site, both the 21-year-old male driver and 28-year-old male passenger were thrown from the vehicle; they were not wearing seatbelts. The passenger, who received life threatening injures, was flown by helicopter to the hospital for treatment.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Chris Delgado said the accident was caused by driver fatigue. According to Delgado, the Chevrolet 2500 single cab pickup was traveling north on Hwy 377 just before it reached CR 233. The vehicle swerved slightly off of the road and entered the bar ditch for reasons unknown, striking the culvert at the intersection of the county road. This caused the vehicle to go airborne. Delgado stated that the vehicle then landed, sliding and striking a historical marker sign and some mailboxes. The pickup then rolled onto its top and landed upright as it came to a stop.

Both men worked for Brookesmith Special Utility District. The driver was reported to have been injured but was well enough to walk around shortly after the crash. The driver was later transported for treatment by ambulance.
