Playful barks, the squeaking toys and ‘awws’ were the sounds that greeted the Saturday mall goer as they passed Concho Valley PAWS in the Sunset Mall.
The stars of the adoption event were the three lab husky mixes, Milo, Balin and Avinash.
“This was a litter that came in as 6-week-old pups,” said Kimberley Myer, the adoption coordinator for PAWS. “They were so sick when we got them that they needed blood transfusions.”
Milo was previously adopted but returned, and Avinash and Balin have still yet to be adopted out.
“They’re 11-months-old now,” said Myer.
Now PAWS is hoping that they’ll find their forever homes.
One special thing that PAWS does is that they partner with the local women’s shelter.
“We put her pet into foster care while she’s in the shelter,” Myer explained. “Once everything is sorted out she will either take the pet back or turn ownership over to us if she can’t care for it anymore.”
Myer explained that now PAWS will hold adoption events on the second and fourth Saturday of every month at their location in Sunset mall.
At these events the foster parents of the dogs and cats bring the animals up to the mall for visibility.
People who are interested in adopting or fostering can fill out the forms there.
“I’ve had two applications for adopting and one to foster,” said Myer, stating that that was about normal.
She emphasized that PAWS is always in need of foster homes.
“We love our fosters, we have one that takes care of five dogs for us,” she smiled.
