Two San Angeloans Get Arrested for Criminal Trespass and Resisting/Evading Arrest

Wednesday was the day for criminal trespassers who attempted to resist and evade arrest. However, they were unsuccessful in their attempts and made their way to the Tom Green County Jail.

Since our last update, 33 people were booked into the TGCJ in the past 48 hours, including the two San Angeloans caught for criminal trespassing and resisting and evading arrest in two separate incidents. That’s not all they were arrested for, however.

Antonio Hernandez, 25, was booked into the TGCJ and charged with Criminal Trespass, Resisting Arrest, Harassment of a Public Servant and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said, at about 8:24 p.m. yesterday, officers responded to the 100 block of E. 8th St. for the report of a domestic violence with an assault. When they arrived, officers located Hernandez in an agitated state.

“Hernandez disobeyed lawful orders, tensed up his fists to officers, and postured into a fighting stance,” said Gonzalez. “When officers attempted to detain him, he became uncooperative and pulled away from them. He was ordered to stop resisting, but did not comply.”

Eventually, the officers were able to detain Hernandez in handcuffs, and he was escorted to a patrol vehicle, Gonzalez said. However, he physically resisted a search for weapons, and refused to get in the patrol unit.

“Hernandez also spit on an officer’s arm and face,” noted Gonzalez.

Once at the jail, Hernandez had to be escorted by jailers due to his instability. Gonzalez said jailers located a substance, possibly K2, on the ground where Hernandez was standing.

“Deputies reviewed the video surveillance, and Hernandez was observed on camera as pulling the substance out of his boxer shorts and dropping it to the ground before he was searched,” said Gonzalez.

At the outcome of the investigation, officers learned no assault occurred. Hernandez broke a window, but did not assault anyone; however, he was charged for trespassing because he was previously issued a CTW from that property. With all the charges combined, Hernandez’s bond is set at $9,500.

This incident marks Hernandez’s 14th arrest. He has a history of criminal mischief and trespass, assault, drugs, resisting arrest and more.

In addition to Hernandez, Elgin Edward Taunton, 32, was arrested for the 29th time yesterday, and booked into the TGCJ at 7:01 p.m. He was charged with Possession/Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Trespass and Evading Arrest Detention with Previous Conviction. Taunton also had two outstanding warrants.

Officer Gonzalez said just before 5:00 p.m. yesterday, San Angelo Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of E. 23rd Street for the report of an unwanted subject.

Police arrived and learned Taunton just left the location and was heading towards Bradford Elementary. While en route to the School, officers were advised that Taunton had two outstanding City Warrants.

Officers located Taunton walking near E. 22nd and Main Street, and attempted to contact Taunton but he ran away.

A perimeter was established and officers observed Taunton jump from the bed of a truck that was parked behind a residence in the 1100 block of E. 22nd St. After Taunton jumped from the truck’s bed, he ran through a front yard and into an occupied residence.

Officers made contact with the residents and located Taunton in a bedroom. He was taken into custody without incident.

Taunton was transported to Shannon Medical Center for a treatment of minor injuries sustained while fleeing Officers. After being cleared by medical staff, he was transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

Taunton was arrested for all the stated crimes, and with all of his charges, Taunton’s total bond amounts come out to $9,324.

Overall, including Hernandez and Taunton, 11 people were arrested on new complaints only, three had both new complaints and outstanding warrants, and 19 people had outstanding warrants only.
