A small barbecue grill fire spread into the attic of a residence in the 1900 block of A&M St. at 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
San Angelo Fire Department responded to the one-alarm fire and found smoke and flames in the attic of the home that was a rental house.
According to Fire Inspector Thomas Truett, there was a small outdoor barbecue grill attached to a vent that was a part of the house.
“At sometime during the age of the house, a crack developed in the vent,” Truett explained. Smoke and flames escaped from the crack in the vent and jumped into the attic.
The fire department put in a great effort to minimize the water damage to just around the area around the vent.
From the outside, the fire appeared to be smoke pouring out of the chimney.
Truett said no one was injured.
