Man Charged with Terroristic Threat/Assault, Drugs, Fighting and More Top Crimes of the Week

San Angelo criminals kept local law enforcement on their toes this past weekend and week. Since Monday, we have posted stories on a shooting/homicide, aggravated kidnapping, high speed chases, aggravated assault and more. Overall, including the individuals arrested in most of these cases, 113 people were booked into the Tom Green County Jail. Also, including these offenses, 54 of these individuals had new complaints. Including those previously reported, the crimes to top the list include terroristic threat and assault, drugs, fighting and driving with invalid driver’s licenses.

In one weekend crime, 39-year-old Chad Turner was charged with Class C Assault, Terroristic Threat Causing Fear of Imminent Serious Bodily Injury, and Resisting Arrest late Sunday night after he assaulted a family member, allegedly threatened a neighbor with a machete, and resisted arrest, said Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department.

Gonzalez said officers were dispatched to Turner’s residence around 9:40 p.m. Sunday night for the report of an unknown problem.  As Officers were en route to the call, they learned Turner was alleged to be in front of the residence armed with a machete.

“Upon arrival, Officer T. Tumlinson located Turner in the front yard,” said Gonzalez. “Turner appeared agitated and began to approach Officer Tumlinson in an aggressive manner.”

Gonzalez also said Turner refused several verbal commands to show his hands and to stop advancing towards Officer Tumlinson.

She said, “Upon disregarding a final order to stay back, Officer Tumlinson responded to Turner’s resistance by deploying his department-issued Taser at Turner, which had little effect.”

K9 Officer J. Fincher arrived to the scene and observed Turner’s actions. At that point, Officer Fincher instructed Turner to comply with the officer’s commands or he would dispatch Police Service Dog Xander.

“Turner soon complied and was taken into custody but later resisted the officers’ search incident to his arrest,” stated Gonzalez.

During the field investigation, police spoke with witnesses who said they observed Turner strike a woman on the head several times before they arrived. Police located the victim, a 68-year-old female family member, inside the residence.  The woman told the officers she believed Turner struck her on the head with a stick.  The victim was not seriously injured and she did not require medical treatment.

Officers also spoke with a neighbor, a 20-year-old San Angelo man, who told them Turner confronted him in the front yard while holding what appeared to be a machete and threatened to chop him and his family up.

Gonzalez said Turner was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where he was booked for the listed charges.

The Tom Green County Crisis Intervention Unit and Adult Protective Services were contacted due to the circumstances at the scene.  The machete was not located; however, officers located and seized a hammer from the scene.
