SAPD to Host Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Training

Today, Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, announced that SAPD will host Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training on Monday, March 28.

“This presentation is designed to help civilians understand what they should do if confronted with an active shooter event,” said Solsbery. “The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training, designed and built on the AVOID, DENY, DEFEND strategy developed by ALERT, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.”

Solsbery said the topics covered will include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of law enforcement and civilian response options.

The training will be held at Central High School’s Sarah Bernhardt Theatre, 655 Caddo Street, and will begin at 7 p.m. It will last approximately one hour, and no registration is required for this training. Solsbery said the training is open to the public ages 16 and up, and it’s free.
