Law Enforcement Officers Shoot Suicidal Odessa Man

Yesterday evening, staff at Medical Center Hospital pronounced an Odessa man, Jason Meador, 50, deceased after an officer-involved shooting.

Justin Baker, public information officer for the Department of Public Safety in San Angelo, said at approximately 5 p.m. yesterday, the Texas Rangers were called out to 1200 block of Douglas Avenue after a 9-1-1 call to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Odessa.

According to a preliminary investigation, officers with the Odessa Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service attempted to negotiate with Meador, who was threatening to harm himself. Officers at the scene said the man eventually brandished a handgun and pointed it in the direction of police. At that point, the officers shot him.

Meador was then transported to the Medical Center Hospital. Baker said this is an ongoing investigation and no other additional information is available at this time.
