This weekend, arresting agencies across San Angelo booked a total of 79 people into the Tom Green County Jail. Out of that number, 48 people were arrested on new complaints. Thirteen people had a combination of new complaints and warrants. Also, the top crimes included drug possession and alcohol-related offenses. Overall, however, police officials witnessed a wide-range of criminal activity.
One individual, Michael W. Schneider, 29, was arrested for making false calls to 9-1-1. Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said, on Feb. 19 at 10:59 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of S. Tyler for the report of a prowler who had gained entry into a residence.
“During this field investigation, it was determined Michael Schneider used his cell phone to call dispatch and report a prowler, twice,” Gonzalez said. “Officers learned the calls were false and warned Schneider he could be arrested if he made another false call.”
Unfortunately for Schneider, after calling 9-1-1 a third time to report a prowler at his residence, and after police found the information to be false, Schneider was arrested and charged with Silent Abusive Call/Elect. Comm. to 911.
Additionally, despite all the tragedies recently involving racing in San Angelo, one 17-year-old, Chasity A. Reyes, decided to take her chances racing on Houston Harte.
Gonzalez said, on Feb. 19 at 11:20 p.m., officers were conducting traffic enforcement in the 4500 block of W. Houston Harte because of an upward trend in citizen complaints regarding speeders and recent crashes involving racing. While running RADAR, officers observed two vehicles traveling at a speed much greater than the posted speed limit of 65 miles per hour. The two vehicles were passing other traffic, followed each other closely, and aggressively switched lanes. Gonzalez said the two vehicles were clearly engaged in a contest of speed on a public roadway, and they were both recorded at approximately 85 miles per hour.
“Officers stopped a gray 2007 Ford Mustang driven by Chasity Reyes and arrested her without incident,” said Gonzalez. “The other vehicle was a white 2006 Dodge pickup driven by a 16-year-old male juvenile. The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Justice Center without incident.”
Another individual, Gerrald W. Mauldon, 42, made his 49th trip to the TGCJ for offenses he has been booked on many times in the past: domestic violence and resisting arrest.
Gonzalez said, on Feb. 20 at 10 a.m., officers were called out to the Motel 6 at 4205 S. Bryant for the report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, a 45-year-old woman. Mauldon was located at a secondary location. Officials at the scene determined an assault had indeed occurred, so they arrested Mauldon.
“Once placed in the patrol car, Mauldon began to get agitated and started screaming at officers to take him to the jail,” said Gonzalez. “While enroute to the jail, Mauldon made several statements to indicate that he would be combatative once he arrived at the jail.”
Gonzalez stated officers notified jail staff of Mauldon’s statements prior to arrival, and once at the TGCJ, Mauldon indeed became argumentative and told officers they needed backup. Mauldon then told one officer he was going to kick him and twisted his body around to do so. Officers issued several warnings to comply with requests to exit the patrol vehicle, but Mauldon disregarded the requests and had to be physically removed. Once removed, Mauldon was taken into custody by jail staff per procedures.
