The first crash reported just before 6 p.m. occurred in the 4200 block of Houston Harte. San Angelo Police said traffic at this time is backed up to the Glenna Dr. overpass.

Shortly after this crash, SAPD responded to a crash at 4204 Sunset Dr. where the driver of a red Toyota Cruz collided with a black Hyundai Genesis. Currently, the right lane close to the Target parking lot is closed down. Both vehicles are now in the parking lot. The female driver of the Genesis was placed into an ambulance and transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

Additionally, a third crash was called in right after these two on Avenue K and Knickerbocker.

San Angelo LIVE! reporters are on the scene, so an update will be coming soon. For now, drivers will want to avoid these areas.

Update 6:52

At the crash on Sunset, the driver of the Hyundai was at a Stop sign, about to make a left turn, but failed to yield the right of way and collided with the red Chevy traveling down Sunset.

"[The driver] received a citation for failing to yield the right of way in a private driveway," said Officer Che Gonzales with SAPD.

Gonzales said the female driver also complained of neck and back pain and was transported to Shannon Medical Center. However, there are no known serious injuries at this time.

Update 7:11 p.m.

Officer Francis with SAPD said a red Audi traveling northbound made a left turn onto Knickerbocker, and at that point, the driver of a gray Honda struck the red Audi, causing it to collide with a white Chevy pickup.

Francis said none of the drivers were transported to the hospital for injuries, and no citations were issued this time. The crash is still under investigation. The driver of the Audi said he had a flashing yellow light on the turn. So before, it was a solid green light, but quickly flashed yellow for yield. This could put the driver at fault, but Francis said it will be up to the insurance company to decide. SAPD will not be making that determination in this case.

Francis said the call came in originally at 6:30 p.m. He added that it may take a little longer than normal to clean up because of the other two accidents that preceded this one.

Francis also said these chain reaction-style crashes within the same hour are not a common occurrence. He said the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash first and took steps to block things off until SAPD arrived. He said both agencies always help one another out when needed.

Update Feb. 16, 3:24 p.m.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, provided an update on the five crashes that occurred Monday evening. Apparently, there were more than originally reported, primarily on Houston Harte.

Gonzalez said the series of crashes began at 5:55 p.m. in the 4200 block of West Houston Harte Expressway WB. The driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, a 66-year-old San Angelo man was traveling westbound on W. Houston Harte Expressway when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a concrete barrier before coming to a stop on the expressway. The man was transported to Shannon Medical Center for non-incapacitating injuries.

Gonzalez said the man wore his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and his front airbag did deploy. The officer at the scene listed the reason for the crash as "Failure to Control Speed;" however, the man did not receive a citation.

One minute after that crash, at 5:56 p.m., SAPD responded to a three-vehicle crash in the 4100 block of West Houston Harte Expressway WB. Gonzalez said the drivers of a white 2000 Ford F150, a red 2012 Chevrolet Silverado and an orange 1999 Ford F250 were driving west on Houston Harte. The accident involving the 66-year-old man caused traffic to slow down. The driver of the white pickup, a 30-year-old San Angelo woman, made a faulty evasive maneuver to avoid hitting the red Chevrolet driven by a 33-year-old San Angelo woman. Upon doing so, the white Ford struck the passenger side compartment of the orange Ford pickup, driven by a 33-year-old man from Robert Lee. She also hit the back left corner of the red Chevy.

The 30-year-old woman was issued a written warning for an unsafe lane change. Gonzalez said there were no injuries in this crash.

As for the crash on Sunset Drive that we reported at 6:17 p.m., Gonzalez said the driver of the 2012 Hyundai Coupe was driven by a 21-year-old San Angelo man, and the driver of the Cruz was a 53-year-old woman from Miles. The 21-year-old man was not injured, but he was issued a citation for failing to yield the right of way from a private drive. However, the 53-year-old woman was transported to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.

At 6:22 p.m., a crash occurred in the 2000 block of S. Bryant Blvd., and the three drivers involved included an 18-year-old man from Eldorado who drove a red 2010 Audi Coupe; a 75-year-old San Angelo man who drove the gray 2008 Honda Accord; and, a 34-year-old San Angelo man who drove a white 1997 Chevrolet KC 1500. The driver of the Audi was issued a citation for Fail to Yield the Right of Way Turning Left. He, along with the driver of the Honda, were not injured. The driver of the white Chevy, however, indicated he may be injured, but he refused an ambulance.
