For people interested in joining, the San Angelo Police Department is accepting applications for this year’s Citizens’ Police Academy, which will start March 1, 2016 and run through April 7, stated a press release Monday.
According to the release, the academy is designed to familiarize those people attending with the divisions, sections and units within the agency and to discuss the functions of SAPD. Students will also participate in practical exercises, including how to handle traffic contacts and use the firing range.
The Citizen’s Police Academy meets for five weeks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., and there will be no classes during the week of spring break.
The cutoff date to register in Jan. 29.
Those people interested in attending the academy can call the Community Services Division at (325)657-4331. Applications are available online here, or in person at 505 S. Chadbourne St.

I attended the Citizen's Police Academy several years ago and it was an amazing experience. I urge San Angelo residents to take advantage of this opportunity to get to know our Police Dept and how it operates.
