Child Spared Major Injuries After Old Ford Rumbles Through Red Light

A young family was lucky to make it out of a crash uninjured this morning at 10:45 a.m.

According to the San Angelo police, a dark blue, older Ford F-150 was eastbound on W. Ave. N and ran through the five-way traffic light at Five Corners, behind the HEB. Travelling west on W. Beauregard Ave. and attempting to cross the five-way intersection to merge into College Hills westbound was a young couple with their nine-month-old child safely strapped into his child safety seat in the back seat of a late model Toyota Corolla. The driver of the Toyota didn’t have time to stop and slammed into the driver’s side fender of the Ford.

Every airbag, front and side, deployed inside the Toyota and the front of the Corolla was ripped off.

Originally, the incident was called in as a minor crash, but was upgraded to a major traffic accident after the female driver of the Corolla complained of pain and news reached San Angelo dispatch that a child was involved. In the end, all refused service at the scene, and other than being shaken up, appeared to be in good health, including the child.

San Angelo police issued the driver of the Ford a ticket for disregarding the red light. Officer Brian Bylsma said that there were witnesses who gave statements that the light was red when the Ford entered the intersection. The driver of the Corolla didn’t have proof of insurance, but Bylsma said that can be cleared up with the municipal court by showing a proof of insurance there.

The Corolla was hauled off to the wrecking yard. The old Ford was driven off from the scene by its driver.
