San Angelo Man Arrested After Theft and Foot Chase

A 27-year-old San Angelo man took a trip to the Tom Green County Jail on Jan. 2 after he shoplifted and engaged San Angelo police officers in a brief chase, said Tracy Gonzalez, public information & social media officer of SAPD.

On Saturday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 5501 Sherwood Way at approximately 4:30 p.m. for the report of male shoplifter, later identified as James Davis, who fled the store after he was confronted by Loss Prevention Staff, stated Gonzalez.

“While enroute, officers located a man who matched the suspect’s description walking in the 5000 block of Sherwood Way,” Gonzalez said. “Officers activated their vehicle’s lights and attempted to make contact with [Davis]; however, the man fled across traffic lanes and ran into the field located behind Target.”

Shortly after, police caught up with Davis and took him into custody without further incident.

Gonzalez stated that Davis was charged with Felony Enhanced Theft of Property Two or More Previous Convictions, Felony Enhanced Evading Arrest/Detention with Previous Convictions and Criminal Trespass. Davis is one of the 68 people who graced the TGCJ cells over the weekend.
