Officer Bylsma said while en route to the scene, he was informed by dispatch that the vehicle, a Ford F150 extended cab, was reported stolen. Another officer at the scene reported this information. When he got to the scene, Bylsma found the pickup smashed into a tree close to Sunset Dr. with no suspect in sight.

“What we’ve got right now is we’re trying to see if we can locate [the suspect],” Bylsma said. “As of right now, we have no information as to the identity of the individual driving the vehicle.”

All indications show the suspect veered off the road and crashed, but the man wasn’t being chased. Bylsma said witnesses saw the suspect leave the vehicle and area. He was described as a bald Hispanic male, about 5’10 with a thick build. He was wearing a plaid shirt and pants. He was seen going through Sunset Apartments, and he appeared to be hurt.

“He hit it full speed,” Bylsma stated. “I know he’s hurt. He was seen holding his side and staggering.”

Bylsma said the window of the truck was shattered because of the force of the impact. He added that crime scene investigators will be able to process the vehicle and see if there was anything left behind by the suspect.
