Psychiatrist Robert Hadley Gross, 58, of San Angelo pleaded guilty to health care fraud and was sentenced to 71 months in federal prison. He was also ordered to pay restitution Thursday, stated U.S. Attorney John Parker.
Gross admitted to defrauding Medicare and Medicaid in September by submitting claims for services he did not provide using inappropriate billing codes. He also submitted claims for alleged services after the death of patients.
Court documents show these fraudulent claims occurred between Jan. 2009 and June 2014. Gross filed claims for patients of MHMR organizations in San Angelo, Midland and Abilene. He also claimed services for Brownwood foster care children.
Gross was arrested in Oct. 2014 and has been in custody since. U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson sentenced Gross to the prison term and fined him $100,000. Robinson also ordered him to pay $1,832,869 in restitution stated a news release.
