McCallum-Sweeney Consultants has designated the City of San Angelo’s Business and Industrial Park as AEP Texas’ first certified “Super Park” site, said a press release Thursday.
The release stated that McCallum-Sweeney is a leading international site selection consulting firm that has assisted companies such as Northrop Grumman, Harley-Davidson and Nissan. McCallum-Sweeney identified food and beverage processing, general machinery, and paper products manufacturing as targeted industries for the park, which offers 746.7 acres of land, with utilities, for development at FM 380 and Loop 306.
American Electric Power, the parent corporation of AEP Texas, hired McCallum-Sweeney to develop and manage the certification process. AEP’s Quality Site Program strives to increase the number of project-ready industrial sites in communities served by the electric provider.
City officials stated that the five-year certification enhances the business park’s marketability and improves San Angelo’s inventory of industrial properties.
“This program satisfies a growing need from companies looking for sites that are ready to develop and free from risk,” said Fred Hernandez, AEP Texas’ community affairs manager. “I’m pleased to say San Angelo will join a small list of progressive communities in the nation that have completed this rigorous site certification process.”
McCallum-Sweeny facilitates the location of operations involving manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, headquarters, back office/shared services and contact centers.
“Companies are not willing to wait for a community to find an appropriate site and determine its suitability for development,” said Lindsey Myers, senior consultant and director of site readiness programs for McCallum-Sweeney. “That due diligence needs to be completed in advance of a prospect visit.”
President John Bariou of COSA Development Corp. board added that COSADC understands “decision-making timeframes for companies continue to shrink. Therefore, location decisions demand sites that are shovel-ready for development.”
