Former Odessa Police Officer Sentenced for Sexual Assault During Traffic Stops

A former Odessa police officer, Salvador Becerra, is behind bars in state jail after a West Texas jury found him guilty Friday of multiple counts of improper sexual activity during traffic stops.

Area news stations reported that the Ector County jury deliberated for about four hours Friday evening before finding Becerra guilty on five counts of improper sexual activity with a person in custody. There was an additional charge of sexual assault and improper activity with a woman in custody, but jurors acquitted him of that charge. Trial evidence proved Becerra “groped and fondled” numerous women during traffic stops.

This morning, jurors heard testimony on his sentence, and after deliberation, the former officer will serve one year in state jail, two years of probation and will pay $10,000 in fines.
