A Pair of Brothers with Texas Rangers Get Showcased on Television

AUSTIN – On Thursday, a television news segment broadcast by KWTX, a CBS affiliate in Waco, showcased two brothers, Jake and Joshua Burson, who are currently Texas Rangers. The Burson brothers are believed to be the first set of siblings to serve simultaneously as Texas Rangers since the Department of Public Safety was formed in 1935, said a DPS press release Monday.

The Texas Rangers are the oldest law enforcement organization in North America with statewide jurisdiction, DPS noted.

The brothers began their DPS careers as Highway Patrol Troopers, and were promoted to the DPS Criminal Investigations Division before becoming Texas Rangers. Ranger Jake Burson is stationed in Waco, and Ranger Joshua Burson is stationed in Lubbock.

“The Texas Rangers know that our respect is not based on a badge and a gun, but is earned through the trust and confidence of the public and our continued dedication to serving Texas with integrity and excellence,” said Texas Ranger Chief Randy Prince. “Although our duties continue to change, our vision remains the same—to protect the citizens of Texas in an ever-changing threat environment; and we are pleased to count the Burson brothers among our ranks.”
