ASU and San Angelo Community Chorales Present Holiday Concert

The San Angelo Community and Angelo State University Chorales will present their annual Holiday Concert on November 24. The free concert, titled "A Celebration of Hymns & Psalms," will start at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 37 East Beauregard St in downtown San Angelo.

Dr. Pamela Lee, who has been the director of ASU's choral activities since 1994, will conduct the concert. The Central High School Chorale and Permian Basin String Quartet will both have guest performances. Additionally, alumni of ASU's vocal music program Patti Wetzel, John Triplett and Mark Cooper will perform.

Felix Mendelssohn's setting of Psalm 115 will be included in the concert, as well as "How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place" by Brahms, "Laudate Dominum" by Mozart, "The Heavens Are Telling" by Haydn, "The Lord is My Shepherd" by John Rutter, and "Chichester Psalms" by Leonard Bernstein.

Hymns arranged by Mack Wilberg, music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, will also be included in the program. "All Creatures of Our God and King," "Down to the River to Pray," "Peace Like a River," and "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" are among these hymns.

The CHS Chorale, conducted by Landon Gilmore and Sunday Vaught, will perform two holiday selections. All the singers will then join for a finale featuring Rutter's arrangement of "When the Saints Go Marching In."
