History Department at ASU Continues Lecture Series With Great War Commemorative Lecture

The History Department at Angelo State University will continue its three-year lecture series with a presentation of the Great War, better known as World War I. This will take place in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive, on November 16 at 7 p.m., said a press release.

The lecture, which will be held in the University Center's C.J. Davidson Conference Center, is free to the public. "Fighting the Great War: Nations and Cultures in the Mud of Combat" will be presented by Dr. David Silbey of Cornell University.

Silbey is a senior lecturer at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and is also the associate director of the university's Cornell in Washington Program. He earned his bachelor's degree at Cornell and his master's and doctorate degrees at Duke University, specializing in military history. Additionally, Silbey has published three books.

Dr. Christine Lamberson and Dr. Kanisorn Wongsrichanalai, both members of ASU's history faculty, co-organized the Great War Centennial Commemoration Lecture Series. This series is funded by a grant from the National Endowment fo the Humanities.
