On Halloween, a 31-year-old San Angelo man, identified as Jimmy Carrasco Jr., 31, was arrested after a vehicle and foot chase through a Santa Rita neighborhood, said Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD.
Gonzalez said just before 11 p.m. on Oct. 31, SAPD police attempted to conduct a traffic stop for the display of a fictitious license plate on a red 1995 Chevrolet Silverado near W. Avenue J and S. Bryant Blvd. At the time, the driver, Carrasco Jr., refused to stop and evaded the officers for several blocks. The suspect also ran several stop signs and nearly collided with oncoming traffic.
The vehicle pursuit ended when Carrasco stopped his vehicle in the 600 block of W. Avenue K where he exited and ran on foot. A short time later, police apprehended the 31-year-old suspect in the 600 block of W. Avenue M.
Afterward, Police K9 Team Officer B. Gesch and Police Service Dog Duke arrived on scene to conduct an article search of the path Carrasco took when he fled from his vehicle. Duke located a plastic bag containing marijuana in an alley where witnesses saw Carrasco jumping a fence.
As a result, Carrasco now has a pile of offenses added to his criminal record. Gonzalez said Carrasco was charged with Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, Evading Arrest on Foot-Prior Convictions, Displaying a Fictitious License Plate, five outstanding city warrants, an outstanding county warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG, and after Duke’s findings, a Class B Possession of Marijuana. Not to mention, he received a traffic citation for no insurance.
Gonzalez added that the 20-year-old female passenger Carrasco left behind when he fled from the vehicle was released at the scene.
