DEL RIO – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Carrizo Springs Station arrested a convicted sex offender who was previously deported.
“The men and women of the Border Patrol play a crucial role in apprehending prior deport individuals crossing between our ports of entry,” said Chief Patrol Agent, Del Rio Sector Rodolfo Karisch. “Our agents are vigilant and work diligently to protect the public and keep our communities safe.”
On Oct. 29, Fernando Perez Espericueta, 46, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was apprehended by Carrizo Springs Border Patrol agents near Carrizo Springs. During processing, agents discovered that Perez-Espericueta was a convicted and registered sex offender. Criminal records checks revealed that Perez-Espericueta was arrested in Dallas for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a child; a first degree felony. On Sept. 6, 2011, Perez-Espericueta was sentenced to five years confinement and subsequently removed to Mexico on June 17, 2013.
Perez-Espericueta faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation - 8 USC § 1326 – which carries a possible sentence up to 20 years in prison.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. During FY 2015, which ended on Sept. 30, 2015, Del Rio Sector agents apprehended 13 previously deported sex offenders.
