Eagle Pass Border Patrol Agents Arrest Convicted Sex Offender

DEL RIO – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station apprehended a convicted sex offender who was previously deported.

“Our Border Patrol agents’ efforts and commitment to the mission of protecting our nation’s borders demonstrate great diligence and perseverance.” said Chief Patrol Agent, Del Rio Sector Rodolfo Karisch. “Our agents put their lives on the line every day to keep our community safe.”

On Oct. 21, agents patrolling near the Rio Grande River apprehended Jose Ignacio Ruiz-Ramirez, 43, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Ruiz-Ramirez had been previously deported from the United States and is a convicted sex offender. Records revealed Ruiz-Ramirez was convicted in Harris County in 1999 for indecency with a child, a third-degree felony. He was sentenced to four years confinement and subsequently deported in 2001.

Ruiz-Ramirez faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation – 8 USC § 1326 – which carries a possible sentence up to 20 years in prison.
